Framed 'The Forgotten Forest of Felled Hopes and Dreams' - Original Art

Framed 'The Forgotten Forest of Felled Hopes and Dreams' - Original Art

I'm often asked something like: "Why this is so negative?" to which my response is: "Is it?"

"When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."
~ Max Planck

It does seem that we tend to memorialize hopes and dreams with evergreen positivity. Too often however, we forget that NOT getting what you want can be just as important.

"Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck"
~ Dalai Lama

Sometimes we hold onto ideas, hopes, wishes, dreams – whatever the conceptual container is – way past the time we should've let them go. If you're doing life "right", you're continually evolving and growing, even if it's difficult to see in the moment. This means the hopes and dreams you had as a kid, as a teen, as a young adult, last year, a month ago, or even yesterday might not only be the wrong choice now, but is blocking you and holding you back from seeing new ones. And news flash: some of those thoughts aren't even yours; they were given to you by people you love and trusted because of the importance of those people in your life.

"We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us."
~ Joseph Campbell

That's why "all we have is NOW" and being fully present in the moment is something I aspire to and embrace. Am I always successful? No, of course not; I'm an imperfect human like everyone else. But I do try to recognize when my own biases get in the way of my "becoming". As always, I'm a work in progress.
